Palestinians ill-served by their leadership How sad that Elaine Rumman, in her letter of Nov. 1, continues the blame game instead of trying to move ahead to a solution and, in the process, revises historical truths to justify her erroneous statement. The fact is that the state of Israel was created in 1948 by the community of nations. Since that time up to this date, the Palestinian people have been ill-served by their leadership, who have advocated a policy of no recognition and no negotiation and who have refused to alter their covenant calling for the destruction of Israel. War is terrible and results in tragedies on all sides. Would that Rumman and those whom she supports looked forward rather than backward and channeled their energies into reaching a modus vivendi between the two peoples. Perhaps now, with Yasser Arafat's illness, another window of opportunity will open. This time, let us hope that it will be seized upon to turn this tragedy of over half a century into one of peaceful resolution. Helen and David Aminoff, Ann Arbor
